New contract in China for FATA Hunter

FATA Hunter was recently awarded a contract for the supply of one new hSystem automation system to Shandong Wantong Metal Technology Co., Ltd., Shandong Province, P.R. of China.

The system will be installed on a 4-high Aluminium Cold Rolling Mill. It will be complete with Automatic Gauge control (AGC), Automatic Flatness Control (AFC), flatness measurement system, coolant spray bars, thickness measurement system and one integrated Level 2 control system for automatic pass schedule calculation, primary mill data management and PDA (Process data Acquisition system).

Novelis opens new aluminium automotive sheet line in Europe

Novelis has celebrated the opening of an aluminium automotive sheet production line in Nachterstedt, Germany, to serve European and global automotive customers.

Located adjacent to Novelis’ existing rolling mill and the world’s largest aluminium recycling centre, the $85 million investment will increase production capacity by 120,000 metric tons of automotive sheet annually.

Aluminium solutions for automotive and building sectors

Sapa President & CEO Egil Hogna recently witnessed new developments related to both sectors at company sites in Gloucester and Tewkesbury, both in the UK.

The Aluminum Association has announced membership growth, additions to its board, and the election of a new Chairman.

In addition, the Association announced the winner of the 2015 Marlan A. Boultinghouse Award, the highest award given by the North American industry.

Aleris selected for Grand Egyptian Museum

Aleris has signed a contract with Alico/ORASCOM to supply an aluminium product for the roofing and wall cladding of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

Described to be the largest archaeological museum devoted to Egyptology in the world, GEM is the most prestigious project of Egypt's Ministry of Antiquities so far. The site is located on 50 hectares (120 acres) of land between the ancient pyramids of Giza and Cairo.

Kobe Aluminum Automotive Products to expand production

Kobe Steel, Ltd. announces that its U.S. joint venture, Kobe Aluminum Automotive Products, LLC (or KAAP), will expand its production facility to meet the growing demand in North America for aluminium forged suspension products.

KAAP will invest approximately $56.6 million in capital investments. Start-up of the new production equipment is anticipated to begin in 2017.

Alcoa to curtail smelting and refining capacity

Alcoa is taking decisive action to curtail uncompetitive smelting and refining capacity to ensure continued competitiveness amid prevailing market conditions.

The company will reduce aluminium smelting capacity by 503,000 metric tons and alumina refining capacity by 1.2 million metric tons. Alcoa will begin the curtailments in the fourth quarter of 2015 and will complete them by the end of the first quarter of 2016.
