Sapa is consolidating its position in the aluminium extrusion sector in France by investing in new value-added services in Le Garric, extending the company’s ability to meet the growing needs of customers.

Sapa opened its new 2,400 square-metre machining workshop at the Le Garric site, north of Albi, on May 20. The workshop provides additional production capacity to expand its machining capabilities and enhance its product line.

Armagh produces lightest seafood can

Pioneering development work at Ardagh Group’s specialist aluminium can plant in Cuxhaven, north Germany has resulted in the production of the world’s lightest aluminium seafood can.

The shaped seafood can, referred to in the industry as a “dingley”, has been designed with a conical wall thickness of only 0.170 mm, a significant advance over its nearest competitor at 0.215mm. Hydro unveils advanced aluminium recycling upgrade

Hydro’s aluminium recycling plant in Luxembourg hosted royalty, government officials, and business leaders on June 1 when it unveiled an extensive upgrade with production and environmental benefits.

Hilde Merete Aasheim, Head of Primary Metal, Roland Scharf-Bergmann, Head of Recycling, and Clervaux Managing Director Ludovic Dardinier hosted the ceremony.

Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), the Bahrain-based international smelter, announced that the CAPEX associated with Line 6 Expansion Project was brought-down from US$ 3.5 billion to around US$ 3 billion.

With an aluminium-intensive concept, e-car bodies can become lighter than 200kg, according to a concept from Hydro. 

All cars need to lose weight to reduce emissions in safe, reliable ways. This applies to e-cars in particular, due to their heavy battery components.

New aluminium casting facility

Magna International Inc. has announced it will build a new world-class aluminium casting facility in Telford, United Kingdom, to support Jaguar Land Rover, the UK's leading vehicle manufacturer.

The new facility is expected to be approximately 225,000 square feet and will create up to 295 jobs at full capacity. Working with the UK Trade & Investment and the Automotive Investment Organisation, along with financial support from the UK Government's Regional Growth Fund, helped to secure this project. Construction is expected to start in the autumn of 2016.


Iran smelter MoU

According to reports, National Aluminium Company (Nalco) and Iranian Mines & Mining Industries Development Renovation Organisation (IMIDRO) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly explore the possibility of setting up an aluminium smelter in Iran. 

The signing of the MoU coincides with the visit of prime minister Narendra Modi to Iran. 

The smelter-cum-gas based power plant, is slated to be part of a joint venture aluminium company to be set up by Nalco in that country. It will utilise supply of alumina from Nalco's refinery in India....
