TALEX site visit for AluSolutions visitors

Registered visitors to AluSolutions 2016 will be given the opportunity to visit the new Taweelah Aluminium Extrusion Company LLC (TALEX).

TALEX is the first aluminium downstream project to be established in Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD).

The plant was set up to produce extruded aluminium and aluminium extrusion based-products for regional and international markets. Sapa opens automotive-focused R&D lab

Sapa Technology Americas is the first facility of its kind in North America dedicated to the research and development of extruded aluminium solutions for the automotive industry. 

The new lab facility opened its doors last week in the Detroit suburb of Troy.

Alufoil Trophy 2016: Winners announced

The aluminium foil sector’s annual premier awards competition, the Alufoil Trophy brings out the best in both multinational and specialist foil manufacturers and converters. 

This year is no exception with 65 entries across the five major categories producing 10 outstanding winners, plus an Overall Excellence winner, which scored extremely high marks in all categories.

Malaysia extends bauxite mining ban

According to reports, Malaysia is extending its ban on bauxite mining by another three months, effective April 15, in order to clear stockpiles and curb air and water pollution caused by the sector in the past two years.

The country emerged last year as a major provider of bauxite after leading producer Indonesia banned ore exports to encourage more processing at home.

Alcoa signs Bauxite supply contracts

Alcoa World Alumina and Chemicals (AWAC) has secured multiple bauxite supply contracts valued at more than $350 million over the next two years. 

Under the contracts, the company will supply bauxite to external customers from three of its global mines as it continues to successfully build its third-party bauxite business. The new contracts cover customers in China, Europe and Brazil.

Auto research centre opens at Brunel University

Innovative technologies to make automotive components lighter and completely recyclable will be tested under industry conditions as Brunel University London opens its on campus car component research facility – the Advanced Metal Casting Centre (AMCC).

Sapa signs agreement

Sapa has signed an agreement with the international flooring solutions company BerryAlloc for the delivery of aluminium skirtings for BerryAlloc’s wet room panels and laminated floor products. 

Sapa will deliver 37.5 million skirtings from its extrusion plant in Magnor, Norway.
