Ball has collaborated with Norwegian craft brewer Lervig Aktiebryggeri, to produce packaging for selected expressions of its craft beer range. Hydro: LoI and MOU

Hydro has signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with the state of Pará and also a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shell Brasil Petróleo LTDA, with the aim to replace a major part of its current fuel oil consumption at the Alunorte alumina refinery in Brazil with more environmentally friendly natural gas. The LoI with the Para Government was signed in Belem, Brazil and witnessed by Hydro’s CEO, Svein Richard Brandtzæg, and Governor of Pará, Simão Jatene. In recognition of their packaging excellence six products, which won the prestigious Alufoil Trophy, have been awarded a WorldStar by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO). Alumina supply contract

Noranda Alumina has secured a long term agreement with the Century Aluminum to supply smelters in Hawesville and Sebree, Kentucky with smelter grade alumina. Commenting on the announcement, David D'Addario, the chairman and chief executive officer of Noranda and managing partner of DADA Holdings, said that the long term agreement with the Century Aluminum marks an essential development in Noranda’s future. Alcoa to close Suralco

Alcoa Corporation has announced that it intends to permanently close the Suralco alumina refinery and bauxite mines in Suriname, fully curtailed since November 2015. The Government of the Republic of Suriname and Alcoa continue to develop definitive agreements concerning Suralco’s remaining activities in the country and the future of the bauxite industry in Suriname. Tiwai Point Smelter

According to reports, Tiwai Point smelter is unlikely to close despite the shut-down clause. Southland's Tiwai Point aluminium smelter, which has issued a shutdown notice, employs 800 people and brings $500 million annually to the region's economy. However, the smelter is expected to be operating despite the shutdown clause. Once the company's results for 2016 are released in the next few months, it may give a clear indication of its future. However, it is almost certain that the plant is not going to shut down in the short to medium term.
