Taxi!

The London Taxi Company has opened new £300m UK factory to make 5,000 aluminium-bodied, electric black cabs per year. The site in Ansty, Coventry, is the first vehicle manufacturing facility to be built in Britain for more than a decade. The fully integrated factory will also become a globally connected research and development centre in electric vehicle powertrains and lightweight aluminium body structures, which will be applied in all vehicles made at the plant.

Hydro’s Annual Report 2016

Norsk Hydro recently released its annual report: ‘Making the world lighter’. In the report, President and CEO Svein Richard Brandtzæg wrote a letter to shareholders stating: “More and more discover the inherent properties of aluminium. Call for Global Forum

The Aluminum Association released a joint letter along with the Aluminium Association of Canada and European Aluminium in advance of the upcoming G-20 summit calling for the creation of a Global Forum to address global aluminium overcapacity. This is the first time that a global coalition of aluminium producers have called for such an effort to address Chinese overcapacity in the marketplace. Feasibility study

SNC-Lavalin is currently conducting a feasibility study for Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) for its 10th generation Technology Pilot Section project, located at EGA's Al Taweelah site in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The objectives of the study are to define the project and validate the budget in order to launch the execution phase of the Pilot Section. The work is being carried out from EGA's Al Taweelah site. Emirates Global Aluminium and Arkan have agreed to test the use of a by-product of aluminium smelting in Arkan’s cement plant in Al Ain, improving the environmental performance of both companies. Spent pot lining is the used inner lining of aluminium smelting pots, which is worn out and replaced every four to five years. Globally, the aluminium industry produces over 1 million tonnes of spent pot lining each year according to industry experts, and much is stored indefinitely.
